Bob Hull has worked full time with SAS in clinical trials since 1996. He is currently a Principal Statistical Programmer for Precision for Medicine. He started at a small CRO (Synteract, Inc.) and developed the majority of the programming macros for their entire department. He has developed instructions, excel sheets, and macros which work together to create define.xml for both 1.0 and 2.0. He has worked similarly with SDTM and ADaM. He has been the lead on many ISS projects including the creation and submission of source data and documentation to FDA/CDISC standards. He has presented at SAS global forum and PharmaSUG. He enjoys teaching, problem solving, and staying technically involved.
Description:
This course will take you from what a define.xml is, then through all of the components of a define.xml. The course is from the perspective of a SAS programmer to other SAS programmers. No XML experience is required. Attendees will gain a comfort level with how to create XML code from SAS and how to debug common XML mistakes by SAS programmers. Other things course attendees will learn are: what values can/should/must be populated throughout the file. What valuelevel variables are and why following the herd is best with them. Common difficulties within Define.xml will be addressed such as: Linking to external files, common P21 messages, style sheets, comments, and QC. A brief outline on how to create your own define.xml system with details on a single section will be shared. You can expand this to all sections on your own and create your own define.xml from SAS. This course will have the most benefit for beginner and intermediate SAS programmers who are familiar with what a define.xml is.
